INTRODUCTION

Many of the types of tools covered in these guides have been commonly used in the past -and some are still used today- by a wide range of professionals and amateurs, including: watchmakers, jewelers, luthiers, clockmakers, engravers, opticians, instrument makers, dental lab technicians, machinists, restorers, silver / goldsmiths, micro-machinists, hobbysts, etc.
Because some of these old precision tools are not manufactured any more, or not with the same quality of materials or craftsmanship; a great deal of them are preferred and sought out by many in the different trades. Since the supply of well preserved tools is always decreasing, they continue appreciating in value. Many collect them, including: watch, clock and tool collectors, as well as collectors of vintage / antique metereological, survey and scientific instruments.
